Presbyterian leaders voted to allow gay clergy, but not gay marriage, during the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assembly last week. But PBS's Religion & Ethics Newsweekly reports that the measure now goes to the presbyteries, or local jurisdictions, which have previously rejected resolutions to ordain gays and lesbians.

You know my good friend Flip once sat me down and tried with a good deal of patience tried to explain to me that being gay is not a matter of sexual choice but orientation. Naturally my strong right wing conservative back ground rebelled against what he was suggesting... that people are born attracted to same sex and it is not a choice. That no sane or reasonable person would ever choose to be gay in Texas. He has been both.

I don't have gay children. I am not gay. I do not have gay family members that I am aware of but even at an early age I could not get on board with making gay people to be villains. The older I get the more I see the way we, as a society, treat gay people is like the way blacks, and women have been treated in the past. The older I get I am opposed to Don't ask, Don't tell, ban on marriage, and any number of ways we thumb our noses at people because they are different. My old philosophy used to be, "How can it be wrong if there is love involved?" but that is evolved to a simple discrimination is wrong. I am happy to be Presbyterian and have made this big step, now lets regroup and marry some of these people off.

Geez I hope I don't have to give up making gay jokes over this.

Gayest Place on Earth Hates Homos!

If you head has been stuck in the sand over the past few months, maybe you don't know that the Right Wing Conservatives stood up to take back the morality of the West Coast. The state that a couple of years ago said it would not deny happiness to people who choose to live together in monogamous bliss, sharing lives and property and living the American dream... That state got out the vote and told the friends of Dorothy to keep it in their pants cuzz "Marriage is only between a man and a woman."

Now I have a real problem with this and it is NOT just because I think it would be hot to watch Ellen and Portia... and I do! Frankly I don't care what religion you are, color you are, economic status you are... You have the right to pursue life, liberty and happiness. That is the fundamental American value. You don't get any more American than that. But to deny marital rights to couples who have chosen to share their lives together based on some interpretation of Biblical scripture, an interpretation that is not even universally embraced by the country's leading churches, is flat ass wrong!

This week America tossed aside old prejudices and chose the first African American President to lead the most powerful nation. We chose to go with smart rather than fear and ignorance. Then in the same day we cast bigoted hate votes that prevent loving couples from the same rights we all should enjoy. It just is not fair nor reasonable. Worse, after many couples (Ellen and Portia; Rambo and Steven Segal; Xena Warrior Princess and the Mushroom chick from Mario Brothers) got married and began a life of accepted wedded bliss, the most liberal state in the Union turned around fucked them! Yeah, right up the ass! Which is, let's face it California... pretty freakin gay.

Gay Mariage

OK I have thought about this for a long time. I have this friend who thinks being gay is a choice and all it takes is self control. He knows this because that is what his church=like literature tells him. See, if you didn't realize it, God made man beautiful and temps other men with delectable man ass. Yes man as, always so close and offering the promises and acceptance in ways that can not be spoken.

Man ass the irresistible siren call to all men. The Holy Grail, the pinnacle of all things sexual, yeah Man Ass is fashizzle!

Except for the simple problem that most men are not only not attracted to another man's ass, they in fact revolted at the thought. Not in a judgementy, preachy way, just a simple, "You don't turn me on" kind of way. Which seems almost more cruel than condemnation. Regardless, about 90% of men are not turned on by plumber's butt.

So if seeing men all around me and not feeling the urge to go all gay on my nearest neighbor, what the fuck is the problem?

Ohhhhhhhh some people can be too gay to be around your little children! I get it! You are not secure in your child's sexuality and assume he/she he-she will go all flaming fag on you and make you embarrassed at the club! You are assuming your genetic progeny leans towards the lads!

Nope gay is not contagious. Yet America is the land of the free to all but the rump ranger set. As a nation we have cast our moral judgement on 10% of the general population. A group that can't contain their desire for same sex. The argument gets even more ludicrous in the explanation, "If God had wanted gay marriage he would have given us Adam and Steve."

Yeah America says Gay marriage is wrong because Gos says marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

But if the argument is a religious argument, then why not leave the decision to the churches? You know, keep the state out of church business. Presbyterian Churches recognize gay couples. Why is America not pissed off gay people CAN'T be married?

Gay Bashing

OK I am going to do this gossipy style, like Entertainment Tonight kind of stuff.

The rumor is a well known City Councilman in my hometown was arrested at an I-40 Truck Stop for public sex with another man. I do not know if he was soliciting truck drivers or met a companion. The reports from area law enforcement are kind of crude.

As a result the guy has been asked to resign from the Board of Directors of the local YMCA because he made the other Board Members uncomfortable.

He claims he stepped outside to urinate but will not fight the charges of indecent exposure. The cops say that IS NOT what he was doing with the other guy.

I called just now, asking one of the YMCA Board members if there was a chance this was a prank some friends of (his/hers) were pulling and I was assured it wasn't. The YMCA Director supposedly confronted him and then had him resign from the board.

OK If true, soliciting sex of any kind at an I-40 Truck stop in your home county is not cool to the point of being dumb. Sex in the parking lot is dumb. But does the punishment fit the crime? If convicted he goes on the Sex Offender Registry, right? That is one of the most horrible things you can do to a person. Neighbors fear for their children thinking everybody on that list is a child molester, where as this dude seems to have been with a consenting adult. Plus he will be a total outcast in a town that thought of him as a civic leader just a week ago.

If he had been caught having sex with his wife of 20 years following a anniversary dinner, would he face the same punishment? What if he was single (I think he is actually) and he met some internet date and they did something wild, stupid, and exciting, like sex in the parking lot .... it's dumb, but do they deserve to be black listed? Is there a chance the cops would laugh at them and tell them to take it to a private room? IS THIS GAY BASHING? IS THIS A HATE CRIME committed by the cops because midwestern American Hates gay people?

I blame Bush!
